Hello Shadowsage
Reiki can indeed help you re-align yourself, but an alternative method (if you just want to get yourself back into the groove) is yoga. Certain forms of yoga meditation concentrate on realigning and balancing the chakras in your body, which will in turn balance your mind and spirit effectively. Five minutes of yogic meditation made me feel better in no time.
I do a lot of various things for my artwork, I like to keep myself loose since I'm a self-study student right now. I've done landscapes, animals, concept art, tattoo design (which have been made into real tats, and I've gotten quite a few requests from friends), meditation and instructional drafting, a little sculpting and glass work, leatherworking, human body studies, and abstracts. I will pretty much go after any art I can get my hands on, but drawing is my specialty. If you like, I can give you my deviantart address to view.
I love books. They're shortcuts, they allow you to learn about concepts that took someone else years of study to compile. This allows you to gain knowledge of these concepts and take it to the next step, that next area of knowledge that there wasn't time to pursue earlier. Referencing an herb or a stone is never bad or sloppy, if we weren't meant to use the books, they wouldn't be there
But, as my dad has always been fond of saying, "while there may be two edges to a sword, either one'll bite you if you're not careful". I always tell people that books are great for research and reference, but to never let them be a bible. The book is a reflection of a perspective, and we're nothing on our paths if we don't hold our own perspective.
Enough babbling from me
lol. Have a good one.
