I think thats great that you heve had the blessing of having a sensei to show you the ki flow and chakra channels, that is where our real power comes from, I believe Celeste has info on this, I know we've posted about it before.
I started studding about this 9 years ago when my late husband became very ill, the Reiki was the natural next step, not only do I do Reiki on people, I do it on everything, including my food & water, I use it in my magicks and always have done it to my animals, when I was working as a receptionist for a vet, I would go to the back at closing and Reiki all the animals, even the ones that were just boarding, they needed to feel the comfort too!
I'm excited for you, thats great that you already have an understanding of how our energy works, that will help you a lot in your work as a practitioner.
