Due to a constant problem of light bulbs burning out in my building, that caused hazards such as not being able to see the stairs (and falling down them), as well as not being able to see the key holes to your mail box, front of the building, OR your apartment, meaning that we all have to carry flashlights all the time, I was VERY pleased to see a pile of those 'green', environmentally friendly light bulbs in the hall.
But when I took out my garbage later on, I saw a box filled with the 'green' light bulbs. I brought them in and tried to hand them to our very young (and incredibly stupid), landlady. I told her I found them in the garbage, and she said she knew, because she put them there. As opposed to installing them, returning them for a refund, or like everyone in the building does when they are getting rid of something, put them next to the front door with a note saying "Free Stuff! Help Yourself."
Why did she put regular bulbs back in, and throw away the 'green' ones that would have prevented the constant hazardous conditions? In her delightful words "They're like all spirally and totally weird looking, and brighter than 'normal' ones."
Experience has taught me that trying to convince her to use them would have been a waste of time. I asked if I could have them, and she replied "Yeah sure, if you want your place to look like totally stupid and stuff."(rolling my eyes)
They didn't have any price tags on them, so I wondered how much they cost. Today I found out that they were the most high end, expensive ones you can get. I went to the hardware store (about 60 feet from our building), were she bought them, and was gob smacked to find out that the 14 bulbs cost 18 dollars each! After calculating in tax, she thew away TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY DOLLARS worth of light bulbs....because 'they look weird'![]()
.
I thanked the divine powers that be, for such a blessing. I now had 14 extra 'green' bulbs. Not long before my hubby passed, he installed a different brand of 'green' bulbs in every light fixture. At the time, I really didn't think that light bulbs use much electricity, so I didn't think there would even be a slight difference in our electric bill. I was just glad that we were doing another good thing for the environment.
But after comparing the electric bill before he put in the 'green' bulbs, and after, I was really quite shocked when the bill for the bachelor apartment was 30 dollars less...and still is, due to the 'green' bulbs. And none of them have burnt out. So I would imagine that someone who lived in a house would save a great deal of money by switching to them. Something for you to think about. They may be expensive, but they definitely pay for themselves in the savings on you bill.
The weird thing was that not long before this, I was worrying quite a bit about how long the 'green' bulbs would last, and how I would be able to afford to replace them when they did burn out. And now this happens. Coincidence...?
In other news...Warning...SUPER boring.
My computer chair broke a while back, but someone threw one away, and I took it in. It looked brand new, but the problem was that the piece you adjust the height with was broken, so I've been sitting on a phone book and 2 pillows that keep sliding out. It's so uncomfortable, that coupled with my disability, I could only sit in it for a short period of time before I was in crippling pain. This put a stop to my work on updating my web site, and the ordinary amount of time I spend on my computer.
The last week I was VERY sick, and had not slept for 6 days. In short, I was a complete wreck. I saw that someone had thrown out yet another office chair, but I could barely make it down the stairs to get my mail, so dragging a heavy office chair from another building, and up 3 flights of stairs was quite out of the question.
It really pissed me off because I knew it would be gone by the next day...like anything someone throws out. But for some reason no one took the chair. I surmised that there was obviously something wrong with it, so I didn't feel so bad, but I kept having this nagging feeling to go look at it. In short, nothing is wrong with it. It is black and chrome, much nicer than both the chair I have been using, as well as my original chair. On top of that, it is the only chair I've ever sat in for an extended period of time where I actually noticed that it was not hurting my back. How great is that?
I feel so incredibly blessed! If any of you had the slightest idea how much pain I am constantly in, even though I take extremely powerful pain medication, and have forked out a lot of cash over the years buying expensive orthopedic back supports, and similar things that didn't work, you would understand how a chair that I spend several hours a day sitting on, that actually reduces the pain in my back, is one of the biggest godsends I could possibly have.
Hope I didn't bore you too much.
