As I often draw in bed at night, or in the morning, I keep a sketch pad next to my bed. Last week I woke up and was going to sketch something, when I noticed that I'd drew a picture of a swan wearing a tuxedo, with a top hat and monocle...that I had no memory of drawing. I obviously drew it in my sleep. I was puzzled as I have never drawn in my sleep, nor drawn or painted a swan in my life.
I looked up the meaning of swans as totem animals in my medicine card book. I'll skip boring you by typing the entire meaning from the book, but it basically said something that I have been asking for in my nightly prayers.
That should any totems, guardians, angels etc; have any message/s for me, to please show them to me in a dream, and that I do not forget the details when I wake up.
I've been working on expanding the sensations I experience during meditation, such as entering deeper altered states of being, and entering different dimensions. Not having a great deal of luck doing the latter. And my attempts at astral travel always manage to get interrupted, no matter what lengths I go to prevent it from happening.
A VERY condensed totem meaning of a swan is, that it stands for grace. Knowing and accepting that I have changed, and to embrace what I have learned. And to quote the book "Through her healing and her acceptance of the state of grace, she (the swan) was given the right to enter dream time." and "The swan ushers in a time of altered states of awareness, and of development of your intuitive abilities." and "You must accept whatever the future holds, without trying to change it."
There is a back and forth dialogue between the swan and a dragon fly...anyway after the swan said it would accept what the future holds, it disappears, and appears a few days later. Transformed from an 'ugly duckling' to a lovely swan. When the dragon fly asked what happened, the Swan said "I learned to surrender my body to the power of the Great Spirit, and saw where the future lives. In a nut shell it means that now is a time that I will experience the very things I have been praying for for months.
The entire meaning of it was so spot ,on it was as creepy as how Crystal Wolf and I seem to share the same brain
. I have experienced various altered states many times, but rarely, what I feel were very deep ones.
One such exception was the time I decided to go to the beach and photograph the sunrise, and entered an altered state so deep, I wandered about taking photos from sunrise to sunset in and this state of being was a 'place' where time didn't seem to exist (for lack of a better way to describe it).
Not long ago I found a brand new looking book on how to water colour, and when I tossed it on the bed, it opened to a page that had a swan on it.
A person I had become friends with in my building moved out (during what I call "The Mass Exodus" were 11 of the 23 people who live here, moved out in the space of 3 months) gave me a stunning glass blown swan, and last year, another person in the building gave me a wooden, hand crafted swan, and I found a really lovely crystal candy dish swan in a box of free stuff.
While the symbolism for the swan is spot on to what I wish to do, what I don't understand is why I have suddenly either seen, found or been given swans despite the fact that, to be honest I love as creatures, but not enough to want to have a bunch of them around my home (which is why I donated them all to be sold to fund a charity for abused animals).
I wondered if anyone else hear has had some kind of similar experience, had any thoughts on this whole 'swan thing'. And anyone have any idea as to why the swan I drew was 'dressed up'? Do you think it is just my creative mind at work, or meaningful symbolism of some sort.
Notice how I didn't ramble?
