Vickijo,

Once, while I was giving a reading in Kansas City, a Baptist guy asked me about the God and Goddess. He felt that he had a pretty good handle on the God concept. But, he didn’t know how to wrap his mind around the Goddess. Growing up Church of God in Christ, I understood his confusion. I asked the same questions when I started practicing magick.
That the church nixes the Goddess from doctrine is a popular misconception. Amongst the Catholics, the Goddess is quite blatantly represented by the Virgin Mary. If you believe that the Holy Grail is actually a child, then one could argue that Mary Magdolin represents the Goddess. But, the most common representation of her is the Holy Spirit.
If you look at the Holy Trinity as a traditional family unit, each portion of “God” has a function that we mirror here on Earth. God the Father lays down the laws and the punishments. God the Son leads by example (like a good older brother should). God the Holy Spirit inspires, encourages, supports humankind. If there was a God the Beav, we’d have the cast of our own cosmic ‘50s TV show.
At Walgreens, they sell Holy Trinity candles. The picture on the candle shows God the Father and God the Son sitting across from each other. Between them (connecting them) is a shining star that represents God the Holy Spirit.
You have a daughter. So, I don’t have to tell you that the person who connects a father and his child is the mom. Hell, for the first near year, we fathers only know our children through you.
I can’t speculate as to whether or not it was the church’s intention to cut out the middle-mom. But, I know that if it was, they failed to do the impossible.

Yes. You can talk to them directly. And, yes. They answer.
Like people, they don’t always come at you the same way. Sometimes, you will hear them as a little voice in the back of your mind. Sometimes, they’ll show you something in a dream. Sometimes, they allow you to meet the right person at just the right time. They do their best to give you what you need, when you need it, and in a way that you will best accept and retain it.
For years, people have told me that I am a teacher and a protector. And, for years, I have been asking the gods to make clear my path in life. After many trials, tribulations, and a WHOLE lot of soul searching, do you know what I found out? I am a teacher and a protector.
The good book says that “God works in mysterious ways.” It should say “God works. Man just needs to pay attention.”

I will start by saying that I am not a Wiccan myself. And, I don’t know much about it as a religious practice.
I do, however, know a few Wiccan women. And, I would bet even money that, if asked, they would all say that Wicca has helped them empower themselves (both as a magickal practitioners and as women).
I don’t mean to butt in, or to pass judgment. But, I think that you and your daughter should openly discuss Wicca, Paganism, Magick, whatever. She should tell you what she loves about it. Of course her words will have influence. But, there are worse things in the world than introducing your mom to something you love.
Besides, it’s not like you are some extremely impressionable teen. You are a big girl. You’ll know if something feels right for you or not.
