Blessings, Vickijo!
If you ever believed that you were able to talk to Jesus or God or the Holy Spirit in any form of Christianity, speaking to the God and Goddess is really no different. I think that your hang up on the reality of the Goddess maybe your biggest obstacle. You'd likely be amazed as to how pervasive She actually is in our Patriarchal society. As was pointed out by Spirit Dancer, in some sects of Christianity, She has survived as the Virgin Mother (which is also a popular mythology in ancient cultures). She is also Mother Earth in current "Pop" culture. And, She is also the Spirit of God from Judaism, the Shekinah. This Divine Feminine was literally lost in the translation. Spirit in Hebrew is a feminine noun. When the Torah was translated into Greek, Spirit became gender neutral and then when it was translated into Latin, Spirit became male and has stayed that way through each subsequent culture.
Many Gods and Goddesses were also "converted" into Saints by Roman Catholicism. This is especially evident in the Irish culture, where many of the Celtic Deities are now RC Saints, such as St. Bridget.
Don't beat yourself up over thinking God first, or for even having a hard time finding the Goddess. She is a patient Mother and will be there if and when you're ready to meet her. I'm fairly certain that this is simply habitual for you to only seek the God. One of the things I have found to help over come this is to remember in Biblical creation story, God is plural and (to paraphrase) states that They created humans, male and female, in Their likeness, which, to me, implies that "They" are Male and Female.
If you are struggling with severe depression, visualization and meditation, in conjunction with professional care can be of great help, but I wouldn't recommend leaving out the professional aspect and rely solely on magick.
I don't get to check into the Cottage as often as I'd like, but if I can be of any further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. I am a Wicca Priestess and may be able to answer your questions with a Wicca specific response. I will also say that Celeste has a very comprehensive site with a plethora of valuable information.
Take care as you continue this journey of Spiritual awakening.
In Her Name,
Nox
