Hi Vickijo & Welcome, as Spirit Dancer mentioned, there are different cultures, (pantheons), but within each one there are still several names of Gods & Goddesses, its about different aspects of the Divine. Just as the Catholics & Orthodox Saints each have a quality to help in a specific problem, that is how the Gods are and that's also why there are so many names for God in the bible, they got it from the pagans
.
Scott Cunninghams's Wicca for the solitary practitioner describes it the simplistic way for me, one Divine source with different aspects. The same principle that I am one person but am seen different by others all depending on what their needs are, I am a mother, been a wife or girlfriend, a tarot reader & spiritual adviser, a massage therapist and so on. Does that make sense?
I was raised Greek Orthodox and then hard core Christian and really had a hard time finding the Goddess or calling on a specific God to help me, so when I first started, I just called on the God I knew, as I expanded in my studies and started doing different daily rituals, I found Goddess. Shortly after that I found my past coven that I studied in for 8 years and they were of the Egyptian pantheon, so that's were my main studies of the Lord & Lady are from but I do use others.
I don't think its too important to use different God or Goddesses names as much as it is to find the Divine spark within yourself, as to the Charge of the Goddess;
And thou who thinkest to seek for me,
know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not
unless thou knowest the mystery;
that if that which thou seekest
thee findest not within thee,
thou wilt never find it without thee.
For behold,
I have been with thee from the beginning;
and I am that which is attained
at the end of desire.
Hope that helps,
Bright Blessings in Love & Light ![]()
