The God & Goddess came from the old pagan rituals and believes, there are many stories from which they came from, most are very similar in nature, different in names, but all date back thousands of years. Do a google search and you will be reading about them for years 
oh, by the way, in my studies I have never found the Buddha to be a God per se' only an icon of how humanity should be, more of the teachings than the man, that's why the Catholic Church will accept a Catholic Buddhist.
