My ex-roommate's wolf died yesterday morning.
Last week, they took him to the vet, because he was breathing heavier than usual. That's when they found out that he had lung cancer. There was a cist or something on his lung. So, docs couldn't operate without killing him. And, the cancer was too far along for kimo. The best estimate was that he had two, painful, weeks left to live.
Things got really bad the night before last. My roommate couldn't bear to see him like that. Thus, the decision was made to put him down.
As it turns out, vets have a room set up for this occasion. Who knew? It's got a couch, chairs, tables, carpet, etc. Apparently, it is set up like a little living room in a home.
Wise old Viktor (and I am so proud of him for this) knew the score. He didn't let his life end on some operating table, with a cold needle, and a stranger in a lab coat. He gave up the ghost (so to speak) lounged on the couch, in the little living room, with his head in his daddy's lap.
Viktor was one of the finest creatures that I have ever met. I don't know a single person who didn't love him on site. It was like he was made out of joy.
Don't worry. I'm not asking for money. I just needed to get all of that out to keep from crying again. I know it seems odd for me to be this worked up over someone else's dog. But, I've known and lived with Viktor for years. He was family to me.
Anyway.
My circle of friends kind of looks to me for spiritual counseling. They expect me to know things that they don't completely understand. And, I try to help out as much as I can.
That is where you all come in.
I thought that giving my ex-roommate some All Dogs Go to Heaven type lore would be comforting. Or, I might write a poem or something that we could read at the funeral. But, I can't find a single thing on wolves or dogs that doesn't paint them as intimidating and vicious astral creatures. That totally doesn't fit Viktor.
Any ideas on myths or lore of wise or benevalent wolves or dogs?
