Well, in Buckland's book, for example, it says that after you name and consecrate a poppet "anything you do to it, of course, you do to that person." Sounded like it could be dangerous since there's no indication of how long the spell would last after the healing was done. He didn't give any further info on how to dispose of them or if you even could, though Crystal Wolf answered that for us.
Most websites I've seen about them warn that the doll should be kept in a safe place after the spellwork is done, but they don't say why or for how long either.
I guess I took it wrong, because I was thinking about people having the burden/responsibility of having to protect a doll for the rest of their lives!
