Hi Vicki, from what I understand and the little bit I have read about the book, I doubt that it's the real thing, if it is, its worth hundreds of thousands of dollars 
I'm sure your daughter is a responsible young lady, but there are others out there that like to dramatize things especially when it comes to magickal or ancient writings, who knows where this comes from and if she feels like she needs to protect it, well, so be it. I personally would destroy it if I felt of it being dark, like once a girl I knew had a voo doo doll from a practitioner of Marie Laveau's lineage, you want to talk about some nasty, heavy energy, yuck
you could feel the heart beat in that box,
I never let her open it and we destroyed it, the things I saw in those flames, anyway, thats just my opinion on this, there is a way to burn it no matter what, Light (higher vibrations) is always stronger than dark (lower vibrations) IMO
