I was wondering...does anyone here ever do anything to test your magickal circles for droops, holes, general strength, etc?
Long ago I used to be doing some sort of spell work and feel like something was a bit off, so I would just stop everything. Later on, when I got that feeling, I meditated to try and figure out what the problem could be, as I could find no fault in the spells themselves.
Then it hit me, what about the magickal circle itself? Was I erecting them properly? Were they strong? Where they even detectable? I decided to put more effort and attention into erecting circles, as well as doing a couple of tests to see if they were 'up to snuff' so to speak. I walked around them with a pendulum programed to signal when it came close to the edges. Then I did tests using a wand to check for any droops or holes around the top. I worked up to blindfolding & disorienting myself, then I would slowly walk around to see if I could feel or sense when I got close to edges of my circles.
To some it may sound a bit silly, but I found that doing these 'tests' quite helpful. Long ago, when I was still fairly new to Witchcraft, doing those things increased my confidence in my circle casting abilities when I was able to actually feel a kind of tingling sensation, remove my blindfold, and see that I was indeed standing a couple of inches from the edge of the circle (which I would mark with a thin line of blessed salt and sand). After that, I never got those odd 'something seems off' feelings.
As the always skeptical Witch (and semi newbie), I had to be able to find a way to prove to myself that my magickal circles really did exist, as opposed to just going through the motions and assuming it was. And if I go for a long period of time without erecting them, I occasionally test them...just to make sure they're strong and have no weak spots.
Has, or does anyone do anything to check the fortitude of your circles? Do you think that it's just a sort of 'Skeptical Celeste' thing
, or is it something you think beginners might find useful enough to add something about it to my web site?
