I find it hard to fathom any person not knowing what they are feeding their dogs. If you go to Itchmo.com they will give you the latest recall list and the past one and any current update on what is being done by the FDA which incidently is nothing.
I recently read an article on the VanPatten company where when questioned about the ingredients they claimed we did not understand and they had to buy grains from China. Strange as I buy winter wheat, corn and oats grown locally that I feed my chickens and a large farm sells this to all the local people who purchase feed and it is grown about six miles from me. Last time I looked American farmers were growing grains except for those that are paid not to. Hello!!!!!
The ratings on the list boggle the mind. Some of the high end foods Timberwolf, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Nutura products (Prairie)(not on the list)all are safe foods. Diamond has been recalled more times than I can count and Dog Lovers food is Diamond. So I have to question where these ratings came from.
It only takes a short time out of your day to investigate the food you feed. Call the company or e mail them and ask. They will mostly tell you and if they hedge then do not buy. Simple to equate. Does not take a genius. It is a competitive business and getting more difficult as buyers are getting smarter these days.
If you want the most bang for your buck then it behooves you to do something. Don't trust me or anyone else do your own investigation and you will find the right food that is affordable for you. Do not pay for the bag all shiny and cute but for what is inside that you are putting into your dog. It makes more sense. If you have time to play on this board then you have time to find out what you are feeding your dog. Last time I looked sawdust which is the main filler in cheap dog foods was not full of nutrients.
