"what is the proper amount of dogs someone should own??"
The number of dogs can be very different from person to person. It can depend on what you are doing with the dogs - are they working dogs?/ pets?/ breeding?/ can you afford the feed, care, upkeep, on the number(s) you have?/ etc...
"should every dog have its own kenell?? how do you stop fence fighting?? does it only occur between same sexes??"
I believe every dog should have their own kennel to stay in. This prevents issues. All of my dogs run as a "pack" when I'm home - but are kenneled if I'm not there. During play time if unattended - someone may bite harder than the other likes/ Hit harder.../ or just aggravate in general - Then the fight would be on and someone will get hurt. Kenneling prevents mishaps & issues.
As for fence fighting - this can be same or opposite sexes. Boredom/ Dominance/ or just plain aggravation can cause it. Less likely in opposite sexes though.
"should every dog have its own bowl of food and water so you can monitor its eating habits or one big bowl for everone??"
If you have more than 1 dog and they are eating out of the same bowl, how would you know if one of them went off their food? Or 1 is hoarding? I believe it much better to feed everyone separately so you can better monitor who is eating as well as individualize the diet for each dogs specific needs.
"if possible when a female comes into heat should you move totally away from males?? can they really breed through a fence??"
When you have intact opposite sex dogs in the same household and the female comes into heat - there should NEVER be "if possible" in that question if there is to be no litter!!! You MUST keep separated!! The game of "Musical Dog" may not be fun but it is necassary!! If one is out - the other is to be locked away safe!!! And yes - they can breed thru a fence!
"what is the number of dogs you can have to start taking off some expencises on taxes??"
I have spoke with CPA's regarding this topic - In order to take expenses, you first have to register DBA or INC. to claim any. But too - this is a grey area with the IRS. Anything that can be considered a Hobby (breeding/ farming/ restoring cars/ etc) will draw attention and you would be closely watched!!! It is advised too that if you do register a DBA - also register and file a Business Plan and follow it closely!! All records must be kept up to date and accounted for!! Personally I would advise against trying to claim these expenses.
