I've always used white vinegar for everything. Once a month pour a cup in the dishwasher and run it for a cycle. Clean windows and use newspaper -- the combination of the vinegar and the ink in the newspaper somehow keeps streaks away. My mom even used a couple of ounces mixed in water as a final rinse for her hair. Vinegar has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. With animals around there is no need to use toxic chemicals.
