In my area here in Iowa we are coming close to record snow fall and have already got a record low temp. We had a -26 night. That was the actual temp in Fahrenheit, the wind chill was in the -50 range. It was so cold you could go outside with a glass of hot water and throw the water into the air and it would all instantly turn to steam and none would make it back to the ground. We also have had several ice storms. Last year I had about 2.5 foot of snow that had accumulated in my yard not to mention the 3-4 foot drifts that were every where that all melted in a 36 hour period. This flooded my basement with about 6 inches of water and looks like it may happen again this year. We just had a disastrous flood here last spring that wiped out a huge section of Cedar Rapids. The recovery is not even complete and it looks like it may happen again this spring. Look up Cedar Rapids Flood of 2008 and you can see all sorts of pictures of the flood. The Cedar River runs directly through Cedar Rapids and it flooded to 32ft above normal level. We have had a worse winter so far this year and if the snow accumulation continues we will have another flood and there in nothing anyone can do about it. Cant control mother nature and there is a dam above Cedar Rapids but the water was going over it and it was close to the collapse point last year.
I do my best to clear my driveway of the snow. I have a 16inch tall mouth on my snow blower and that has not been tall enough after just one snow fall more that once. I apologize if I do not feel sympathetic for those of you living in Mexico or Texas or anywhere warm. I would kill for 60s right now. I would be in shorts and a t-shirt. I know Texas has been hit with ice storms and the only reason it effect the area so much is because the cities are not prepared for it because it does not happen very often. Las Vegas got 3 inches of snow in one day this year, that was a record for them. We have had at least 4 ice storms this year of the magnitude Texas and other places had, but we handle it better here because we are use to it and it is simply a fact of life here, not a disaster. I am sure Dallas does not have special snow plow, salt and sand spreading trucks, or at least not very many. My uncle drives one of these trucks here and has had to work on Christmas eve and/or day 3 years in a row. Last year the county had depleted it's salt supply and budget for salt half way through the winter.
The world climate is changing and I fear in will happen much faster than we are led to believe. If you do not think humanity is damaging the planet we live on, than you are blind and brain washed. It is proven science. And all the government is doing about is.... nothing. The price on fuel continues to rise (just so we can pay more to destroy our future) and the economy continues to crash. Sorry I do not have much positive to say on this topic. I HATE winter and will be moving somewhere warmer some day.
