"No one will take care of me and my dog except me"
This is a truth many will not face. I have faced it long ago as Cathy knows. I have battled people, weather and just about anything they can throw at me. All of my time and resources are spent taking care of us and living in an emergency mode. For 2 and a half days the water was frozen here, No one's fault just weather. I keep 30 gallon jugs filled, two 50 gallon rain barrels and soon a third one will be in place these are thanks to Prizim's Pride. During months that pose no threat I rotate the water into the garden. I always have it on hand, lesson learned. I am now working on something that will possibly make running out of dog beds not happen. In the summer bathing in a rain barrel is fine. In the winter not so. I stock food and this year will grow much more and can (I have two canners) and so will have food in surplus. I always have gas on hand which fires up a large generator for power. A wood stove and two cords on hand for heat when needed.I have three freezers working all the time and two refrigerators, Outdoor grills charcoal and gas. If I run out of gas wood works and I have a forest full of it.
Living in the country or an earthquake zone makes one cognizant of the times and nature. Our culture has made us lazy and dependent upon others. One can only depend on self. Life makes it interesting and develops skills one needs if you listen. It is not hard, just requires that you give up some of the ways of society and dependability upon others who will most likely turn out not to be dependable. This has proven itself over and over in my life. This is why my circle of contacts is small, few and solid. All of this must be protected in rough times and so a large store of ammo is in place.
When all is done Howling Acres must stand tall on the mountain. It will!!!!!
