I HATE those things. Thankfully they are in the desert in southern California and not along the coast. When I was a kid we were visiting my uncle at his ranch in the Mojave Desert -- my father got out of bed an put his foot in his shoe only to get stung by a scorpion. They just pulled the stinger out and packed his foot in ice. We were at least 2 hours from any medical facility, so he chose not to go -- and it seemed to be a common occurence at the ranch. If it happened to me or Bodhi, we would absolutely go to a medical facility. Apparently it is fairly painfull. The species here generally are not fatal. They are nocturnal so that's how it got inside and into the shoe. When you live in areas that have them, you learn to always check inside shoes -- anything on the floor that they can get into. How it got in the house, I have no clue. Keeping harborages where they can hide out of the environment is key.
