While things have changed since my show years it still has the same premise as before. When you are showing a dog you are presenting your dog as a good example of the Standard for that breed and supposedly the best dog in the ring that meets that criteria. If you are the only dog in the show then you have not competed against any other dog of your breed. The judge will most likely give you the title for that category however you have not truly competed. In order to gain a championship it is a point system which allows 15 points and you must win one 4 point major (this means you must gain points winning over at least 4 others) and two 3 point majors (winning over 3 others) the rest of the points can be single wins such as BOB for a total of 15 and this gives you a title as a champion. Showing up as the only dog does not entitle you to a Championship. ARBA gives what they call CACS and you must gain at least nine of them for a title. This means you must win BOB nine times. This means in a weekend if you win all eight shows you only need one more weekend to get the title. I did it once with Taz but it is not common.I went in with one CAC to my credit and took all eight shows for a total of nine.
As far as preferable titles it is usually more prestigeous to win ARBA with a rare breed. I never showed at UKC and from what I have seen winning I never would. I even won an AKC show with a rare breed once as the judges decided that the dogo was indeed the best dog in the show however that was a long time ago when much of the time the best dog could win and rare breeds were invited to AKC shows.
In response to the International question I have no idea how this will work now that brokers are involved. I guess if you have enough money it can be done but is it worth it. It would not be to me. Showing used to be fun and very competetive among breeds but it seems to be falling off as a competetive sport and corruption, while always there in some form, seems to have taken over. It just got very political and no longer fun. It used to be about dogs.
