When I said college level education I do not mean a 4 year degree or any degree for that matter but simply some basic courses that most people could take at there convenience and possibly online or as a night class. It would cost some money but not that much for the benefit it would be worth. The community college near me would have college biology 1 and 2. These are 4 credit courses and at the cost of about $90 per credit you are looking at $360 for one class which is all you really would need and the cost of books and lab fees = about another $100. So about $460 for a college level biology class that would give you the basics in biology, genetics, anatomy and you would get hands on breeding of other animals and plants which would show you ways to follow traits and genes and would show you why inbreeding is bad and what line breeding really is. Well worth it! I will not even get into vet or Dr scenarios as I do not feel many US vets and Dr's know that they are talking about.
As far as the hunting. I agree that many dog are injured and killed due to hunting. This is not the dogs fault or the hunting but the owners putting a dog in a dangerous situation without the training or testing the dog should have before being put into that situation in the first place. Many of these hunters do not know how to train a dog and think the way to test a dogs hunting ability is to let it loose with the other hunting dogs and see how it does. This is OK if you are hunting coon or something small that is likely not able to kill a dog but a wild pig is not small and more than capable of doing life threatening damage, so the dog needs more than just a hunt test. The other aspect is that many hunters do not feel the dogs are worth armoring with the proper armor that is available now. You can get kevlar armor for this type of hunting and this would prevent many dogs from being injured or killed. The armor is not cheap and these careless hunters feel the cost of the armor is not worth it as to them a dog is dispensable. The armor is not 100% going to prevent all injuries and not going to 100% save all lives but would help a lot. Hunting dogs love to hunt, they are very happy doing so. That is why I provide exercises to my dogs that make them feel like they are hunting. They love it!
I revise my earlier statement as I do not feel there should be any laws or regulations on breeding as it would not get enforced properly and people would continue doing what is going on now anyway and we do not need any more laws. Instead we should all be trying to educate ourselves and others and do not buy dogs from ignorant breeders or establishments and do not sell dog to stupid people or support any people or groups or organizations that our education does not support.
I do not understand why any person would feel that the process of playing with life it self should not need some education to back what you are doing. As a breeder you are forcing the creation of life and there for playing GOD in a small way. Why any person would not think some basic knowledge of the true mechanics of what you are doing is needed is mysterious and unknown to me. Any responsible, moral person would want to know all they can just to be morally sound and feel they are doing what they are doing to the best of there ability.
