I didnt realize how out of shape I was in till I realized how much walking I was doing. We Hiked everywhere but we definately saw tons of stuff.
First we ate breakfast at Pigalle. This was in part thanks to Mrs Judy, Mallory's mom, who hooked us up with breakfast vouchers. However, this breakfast was very good and filling...enough that I would recommend it to anyone travelling there. They had great omeletes. ( http://www.pigallenyc.com/ )
From there, we set out to 5th Avenue or the dreaded shopping district. It was a cool looking street, and we started our adventure with St. Patricks Cathedral. That church was immense and had many cool artifacts. From there we continued down to the famed Tiffany's jewelry store. I had been to a Tiffany's in san diego but this one was far bigger and had a feel to it that it was special. Then we had to stop and get Mallory's niece a gift at a store that disturbed me deeply. For you parents with daughters, the American Girl Doll Store is scary, expensive, and somewhat insane.
After that we grabbed a quick bite to eat before going into FAO Swartz's toy store. That was a neat store with plenty to play with and view. They have made an act of the piano that Tom Hanks fiddles with in BIG the movie. From leaving that, you can see Central park. So we walked over there and briefly walked through a part of it. From there, we headed back to Time square and our hotel to clean up and decide what to do for dinner.
We decided that tonight would be a great night to go to the top of the Empire State Building and that we could find something to eat around there. Well, I recommend always carrying your map cause, we didnt and hiked over to the Chrysler Building thinking it was the Empire State building. By the time we figured it out, we were hungry and so under the Empire State Building is a Restaurant called, the Heartland Building. I have to say that this was the worst meal of our trip. Its very typical of your american brewhouse restaurant you find in any city. There were many disappointments like the food was average tasting, the specialty beer was flat, and the service was slow and annoying. ( http://www.HeartlandBrewery.com ).
Afterwards, we got in line for the Empire State Building. It was around 9pm and we waited in line about 2 hours. However, when we got to the top it was an amazing view. Then we hiked back to our hotel and called it a night!
