ANTIFOLK: FIRST CLASS show at Sidewalk Cafe
features scene founders
Lovers of songwriting in the antifolk style are in for a treat on Thursday, October 23 at the Sidewalk Cafe in the East Village when five of the scene’s founding class reunite for an evening of furious folk and serious fun.
Lach, Brenda Kahn, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Zane Campbell and Billy Nova were among the many young punk-influenced singersongwriters that converged upon moribund Greenwich Village in the early-mid eighties seeking a stage for their edgy acoustic songsmithing. When the old folkies on 4th and MacDougal Street would have none of these upstarts, they joined forces and moved their show to the Lower East Side where they thrived.
Over the years, the antifolk scene has nurtured the likes of Beck,
Michelle Shocked, the Moldy Peaches and Nellie McKay in their formative days, and remains true to the mission to this day. Thanks to the ANTIFOLK: FIRST CLASS, the world is made safe for “folk music with an attitude”.
Come out and join the celebration!
The ANTIFOLK: FIRST CLASS show starts at 8pm, and features Lach, Brenda Kahn, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Zane Campbell and Billy Nova. No cover, two drink minimum.
The Sidewalk Cafe, located at 94 Avenue A in NYC, features live music 7 days a week, and offers a full menu of delectables in its restaurant next door.
