Back in April I was working on an article about Lach for the Deli Magazine. They asked that I expand it a bit and I ended up doing an interview with MMM and Dan Costello about OJ and the BTP, respectively. The end result was a 4,000 word article, divided into roughly three sections, plus an "Antifolk Sample" that described about 15 artists in the current scene, plus a bunch of links where curious fans could explore many more equally talented acts.
The article was, in my opinion, pretty good, though not fully baked. The BTP section was written when my wife was past-due and there are a few things I would have liked to correct/expand/clarify. I would have liked to sit down with a few more folks, but that would have only made the article longer. So I turned in what I had and went off to have a baby!
So now it looks like, because of size restrictions in the print magazine, the Deli will be posting the Lach and OJ sections online. The BTP section will apparently be in the print magazine.
I'll be curious to see how this ends up looking...I didn't have a say in how they split up the article and I hope the pieces stand alone. There are parts in the BTP section that refer to the other two and I'm not sure if the Deli editors made any alterations. I know that no one caught my misspelling of Richard "Thomson," a typo from a guy who owns all of that songwriters records.
Anyway, according to the Deli, these pieces should be surfacing in the next week or two. Enjoy them. I put a lot of thought into the current scene as I see it, the role that everyone plays, and different folks views on how things have evolved.
At some point I'll post the original article the way I intended it to be viewed.
