I wrote the poem for 2006, and (call me nuts...) Lora wrote the poem at 2 am one morning for 2004 (I was tossing & turning, and realized it was because a poem kept forming in my mind--got up, wrote it down, and went back to sleep)... The other years I have borrowed poems from others on the web.
Here they are:
2006
The days have been long, and your strength has worn thin
You’re wondering where the Lord has been
You miss me so much and your heart asks “Why?”
Though you can’t hear His voice, the Lord hears your cry.
Please know that I’m safe and happy in Heaven.
I know of your heartache and pray for you often.
Though time takes its toll, He is holding you up,
Carrying you through so you do not give up.
Today close your eyes, and see my bright face
As I sing with the angels in this glorious new place.
With my friends and my family who live with me now,
We celebrate daily and before His throne bow.
The lights here are radiant, the trees lit with color,
The songs ring in harmony with heartfelt fervor.
The tables are filled with heavenly food
As we hug and greet each one in this brood.
So while you are missing me, know that I’m waiting
For the day when He calls you—I’m anticipating!
I’m helping Him ready a place with me here,
When we’ll never again ever shed a sad tear.
2004
I know that you miss me
But aren’t you glad
For all the good memories
Of great times we had,
Of laughter and giggles,
Of trips that we shared -
Say, aren’t you glad
That I loved you and cared?
I know that you miss me
But aren’t you pleased
That I modeled myself
To follow your lead,
To be loud with laughter
Yet in tune to His call?
Say, aren’t you pleased
That I gave life my all?
I know that you miss me
But didn’t you know
That I cannot miss you
For I glimpse you below
And I ask our dear Father
That my love you will feel -
Say, haven’t you sensed
That I think of you still?
So when you do miss me,
And it’s natural you would,
Remember I’m with you
In all that is good.
In all that is loving
And all that is kind,
I’m holding your heart
‘Til your hand can hold mine.
