You ask, "Why us?" and the only thought that comes to my mind is "Why NOT us?" I don't mean to be insensitive, because I'm going through hell--again--this 10th Christmas without our Lora... but while you are right, there are soooo many folks who have never handled a loss this severe, we forget that there are very very MANY who HAVE. It isn't as common in a first-world country such as ours, but it is VERY common in countries like Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, etc. And they don't die from accidents -- they die of starvation and war. So do you think their mothers grieve any less than us? Or deserve their fate more than us? I mean, seriously, take a few minutes to think about it. I think sometimes as Americans we have a tendency to view citizens of third world countries more as "animals" than as fellow humans. Nothing could be more wrong.
We were not singled out by God for misery... we simply live in a fallen, sinful world, where MANY MANY mothers cry for their beloved children.
Doesn't make me hurt less to know that -- but it does make me less angry.
hugs,
jan
