I am no expert, but if you need medication, please know that the first one you try may not be the one for you, but there may be another one that is perfect. If you need this medication for your fibromyalgae ask you doctor about Lyrica, because I heard that it is used to treat fibromyalgae and it is not an antidepressant.
If your doctor puts you on a medicine that is also an anti-depression, please be careful and know what to look for. My daughter was on Paxil for many years, and she never had any trouble at all until she tried to get off of it. Her doctor took her off "cold turkey" and her reaction was so severe, she had to be hospitalized. NEVER, let a doctor take you suddenly off of a drug once you have been on it for a while - ease yourself off of it little by little until you are sure your mind and body can handle it. I also took a very low daily dosage of Paxil for anxiety for over a year and it worked wonders for me.
A couple months after Bobby died, the doctor prescribed Xanax for me and I had a terrible reaction to it. It make me so terribly depressed and so tired that I wanted to stay in bed and cry all day. I think I ha not gotten off of it, i would have became even more depressed.
Not to scare you, just be very careful - my youngest brother commited suicide while on anti-depressants. Of course, it may have been a coincidence and maybe he would have committed suicide had he not been taking them. He was only on them a short while before he killed himself.
If you end up taking a drug that is an antidepressant, watch yourself carefully for severe bouts of depression. Know exactly what signs to look for and ask your husband or friend to watch you also.
I completely got myself off all drugs for anxiety and depression. I read that there is a natural chemical in our body that is produced when we sit in the sun that acts like an anti-depressant. If any of you are thinking about taking something for anxiety or depression - try this first. Try sitting outside when it is warm for about thirty minutes every day. Let the warmth of the sun, the sounds of the birds, and the gentle feeling of the soft wind hitting your face relax you. Let your mind become peaceful and breathe in the fresh air. You will automatically give praise to God for the beautiful world we all take for granted. It works wonders for me, although when it is rainy or too cold for several days in a row, I miss it so much and I get depressed. I am addicted to sitting out there, and when I travel I miss it so much that sometimes I just refuse to go anywhere. I am looking forward to the Spring even though it will mark the 3rd anniversay of Bobby's death, April 7, 2006.
