powerful words, ms. patti. believe it or not, it gave me encouragement for my mother, who has responded to this only personal crisis in her life as though the whole world is out to get her... she is just angry at everyone, and pushing everyone away who loves her. her husband (my dad) of 57 years is in the same rehab center (different room, her choice) and she won't visit him (after all, it's his fault she fell & broke her hip, since she fell while visiting him). i've never seen her this way before.... but then i've never seen her under personal pain and pressure either (yes, she lost a grandchild, but that was "my" direct-hit, not hers). it's definitely bringing out the worst in her, and we're all baffled, hurt, and offended, to be honest.
but reading your post this morning gave me hope that, if i just leave her alone, give her her space, and trust god to work in her (in spite of herself!), she can come through this time of bitterness and feeling sorry for herself a far better, more compassionate person, one who is grateful for the life she's had and what she still has now.
