Another wonderful night with Billy arranged with Edwina Gaunt , up tonight from Grimsby . Alnwick folk were treated real well and had a night of stitches and song.
Two supports were up first, with Billy on sound desk duties - Piddlers Pot proved to be a instrument 4 piece with a dutch bassist - they provided the only ever version of the Kinks "Lola" that I had heard , led by a left handed banjo in the key of F !! Their harmonies and acapella covers of Barbara Ann and , amazingly , Honky Tonk Woman, were deep and impressive.
The Tenner Sisters from Sedgefield started with some lovely guitar led S&G covers giving resonate loud acoustics and beautiful harmonies around the suite - their version of Summertime was especially magnificent though the vocal stuff to Glenn Miller backing tapes to close was less successful.
Billy's humour was fantastic , and not only did he entertain with the old classic tales , one new line " He was in the navy and didn't like it then either " was brilliantly delivered and left me in tears of joy. Many of the well heeled local audience were seeing Billy for the first time and clearly enjoyed the emphasis tonight on tales and humour. We also had 16 tunes and the guitar endings in particular on Dublin/ Collier Laddies Wife / and Ghost In Blue Suede Shoes were simply exquisite , a treat. We also got the goldplated dog story and news of the "Two Anchors" - go to see him to get this one !!!.
Thanks again for a well enjoyed night out .
