I just received the following email from a co-breeder/UKC judge. As many of you may have already known, the Leavitt-based organization has been on the door-step of being recognized by the United Kennel Club as the "parent club" for the Olde English Bulldogge. Once that passes, those of us who do not have Leavitt dogs will be looked at as having just "mixed-breed" dogs and it breaks my heart to know that all of our hard work will have been in vain. This email refers to an event being held at the Premiere (the Westminister of UKC) where that will be recognized as the up-and-coming "parent club" and their dogs will be shown in that sanctioned event. A prominent UKC judge is already scheduled to judge that event. I sadly knew this day was coming but didn't think it would be so soon.
This is the email that was forwarded to me.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to let those who plan on attending the Premier know that the Olde English Bulldogge Kennel Club will be hosting a Specialty Show at this years UKC Premier on Thursday, June 11th. We are honored to have Judy Threlfall judging for us.
This will be a non-UKC event and no points will be awarded, but our members and fanciers are very excited to be part of such an event and I'd encourage anyone interested to stop by before/after the show and feel free to ask any questions or just meet some dogs. Everyone at the OEBKC is always happy to talk about the breed or dogs in general.
The OEB gained acceptance to the Canine Developmental Health and Performance Registry in August of 2008 and we have transferred all of our registration activity over to them. This is a huge step for our breed and club, and I would like to extend a heart-felt Thank You to both the UKC and the CDHPR for the opportunity to attend the Premier.
Hope to see you there,
Leigh
