Did anyone have trouble getting your boats out at the tournament on July 14? I just want to express my extreme disatisfaction over how long it took to take out. I was in the truck waiting in one line for over 45 minutes because "fishermen" in the other line were not courteous enough to do an alternate merge. Because of this delay due solely to lack of "sportsmanship" from others, my partner and I missed the weigh-in by 5 minutes and were not allowed to weigh our limit of 5 fish. Changes need to be made in how future tournaments are done at rt 5 so this won't happen again to guys who fish their guts out all day in the hot sun and are lucky enough to scratch out a limit, feeling good on the way in and then at the end of the day, have it all crash down and nothing to show for it.

It was a mess getting loaded up ...we even got checked on the water by the game wardens...Being a tournament director myself, if you are allowed to trailer your boat before weigh-in.It is done to help ease the time in loading.It is "your" responsibility to be at the scales before they close. You had a nice bag of fish you dumped in.After seeing you dump them in I can understand you being po'ed, but no tournament is going to hold the scales open for you to get loaded...if you knew it would be a while you should have drove the boat back around...weighed the fish then trailered. I agree it was a mess down there but get your fish weighed before you get your boat...the bag of fish pays...loading your boat does not.There were a lot of recreational boaters down there and were backing so only 2 boats could load and unload at a time...when I got to load it was 4 bassboats wide on the ramp and took us about 2 minutes total time.The tournament crew can not control outside people at the ramps nor can they reserve it.You talk about sportsmanship but most of these guys had probably weighed in and had no idea you had not or they may have let you in...By the way...did you let anyone cut in front of you ...being a good sportsman and courteous. I don't think so.Not trying to ruffle your feathers but if you were in my trails you would have been DQ'ed also.ABA and BASS Weekend series just incase you were wondering. Route 5 is not the ideal place for a tournament of that size. A federation or ABA is ok. 50 boats maximum at that place. Avoid using that ramp if you have that many boats and you cut out a lot of issues. I'm sure the pleasure boaters were just as mad as the Hooters crowd was. Most of the boys dropped their partner off on the boardwalk and then drove around to wait for them to weigh -in and then bring the truck down . We dropped our chip in the net at 3:25 and didn't weigh until 4:05 due to traffic at the ramp . We won't make that mistake again !

Somewhat unfamiliar with that ramp and the check-in area hurt us but we will never make that mistake again. We learned a costly yet valuable lesson. Hopefully the tournament organizers also learned some lessons that will help avoid these problems in the future. I felt bad for the fishermen that didn't weigh in their fish before the scales closed, but the bottom line is; weigh in your fish asap when the ramp is very crowded. For a couple of reasons. You want to make sure that the fish are weighed and back into the water quickly and avoid the posibility of being disqualified. In defense of the Castaways crew, they did not initially choose the route 5 location. They were forced into a location change by the BFL tournament, when Castaways had already reserved Osborne.

Pro-am teams has had close to 200 boats from this site in the past, with no weigh in problems, last July CASTAWAY was at this site, because of BFL,and had no weigh in problems. my vote don't count, but I can't see a problem with the site, or tournament directors. : : :

Yup, and most ding dongs weigh their fish in (if they have a decent bag) prior to trailering their boat. "Hey, we got a decent bag. Let's weigh them in, then go load up and come around and see how we did. There's alot of people fishing this tournament and that ramp is kinda small so it'll take awhile to get our boat loaded anyway." Makes sense to even a dummy like me. Wouldn't put my car on the trailer till after I went to Victory Lane now would I?? Maybe one day somebody will write a book: Tournament fishing for Dummies. Handle everything from registering to weighing in!! It'll be a number one seller!! Maybe win the Pulitzer!!!
