The question is though, what do you mean by "will it do ..."? If by that you mean, "will it detect metal?". Then sure, it will detect metal. But if by that you mean can you expect to go into hardworked parks and pull silver behind modern machines? No, you won't.
The more virgin a site is, then sure, you don't even need a late-model machine. But when you start adding minerals, uneven ground (as those old TRs were a bear to keep balanced on un-even ground), and competition, then you're going to be woefully left behind.
So it all depends on what you mean by "will it do?"
