thanks Tim for the info---interesting enough, my temps are much milder in winter (normally 25f for a few hours is the very lowest it gets to) with lots of rain 60" between november and may and our summers very cool (average high temp 65f.) and very dry (essentially no rain between mid june and mid october)and many foggy/overcast days. my guess is that some of the desert species like havardiana are particularly sensitive to high humidity and low light intensity in the fall and winter---others apparantly are not which is why i do have some happy agaves.
