Posted by Nick Macer There is definitely variation in hardiness in salmiana as a whole and I find it to be far more moisture tolerant than than the more usually grown, hardier Agaves. I recently noted on a trip down to Cornwall, UK (high rainfall), that salmiana was looking a lot better than americana after a wetter than average, though extremely mild winter. A. americana had a lot of leaf spotting/blotching, which is all to be expected really if one considers the provenances of each species.

I fully agree with George. Ignore the name ferox though. I don't believe it is a very sound botanical division. Some of the forms that are given that name are quite distinctly toothy, but I have a feeling the best of all may not even be in cultivation in the USA. The common form of ferox in the Mediterranean countries is utterly awesome, with leaf edges like sharks jaws (literally) and puckered, somewhat valleculate leaves. The whole plant is never much more than about 5ft tall.
