I think A. ovatifolia is really an excellent choice. What came to mind for me is something like A. ferox 'Green Goblet' or A. protamericana 'Mr. Ripple' - but many just regular species would also be nice. Something like A. durangensis would make quite an impression. Or even a good form of A. parryi would be nice and then you wouldn't have to worry about hardiness. Something like A. striata might be kind of cool in a very different sort of way. The whole urn thing sounds like a cool idea!
