Last winter it got to 22 degrees in my unheated greenhouse quite a few nights in a row. I had a lot of small Agaves and Yuccas in there, and I didn't water them all winter and most of them seem to be fine.
Yucca schottii from 4,800' west of Nogales had quite a bit of damage but look mostly alive.
Yucca schottii from 7,900' in the Chiricahua Mountains have no visible damage.
Yucca madrensis from Rarepalmseeds.com show no damage.
So, two thoughts about that...
#1 If you've lost Y. schottii from cold, don't give up until you know what the provenance was.
#2 I wonder where RPS.com Y. madrensis seed came from. Is it from plants traditionally classified as Y. madrensis in Mexico? Or is it from Y. schottii in Arizona which the FNA now considers to be lumped under Y. madrensis.
As far as the Agaves.... A. deserti subsp deserti seemed to get some damage regardless of the elevation - even high elevation forms had some damage. Some damage on A. salmiana ferox which are probably not really that. A. havardiana, A. parryi huachucensis, A. chrysantha, and I forget what else I had in there didn't have much damage.
