Whoa! Other examples: I believe in some Eskimo tribes, there is occasional infanticide if the food supply is insufficient. You don't have to smother the child, just leave it exposed to the elements. This was a fairly common practice in ancient Greece if a child had a birth defect.
It happens now that some infants are born severely deformed, and there is no way to improve their condition. Often, they are in great pain as well. The doctors usually sedate them, and they sleep. As a result, they don't eat, and die of starvation after a few days. This is done with parental permission, by the way (as far as I know). But it is infanticide--probably the situation Tooley himself has in mind.
