I know it's very late now, but I still have a question I forgot to ask.
Utilitarianism is basically states that we should take actions that result in greater quantity of happiness for greater amount of people.
So this is what I was wondering. If a society is composed of 100 people, and 1 person had $10000, and the rest didn't have any money, according to the diminishing margin of return, the person with $10000 should give $1 to the 99 people with no money, since $1 gain to those with no money will give them more quantity of happiness that $1 will give to the person with $9901. Then in the same manner, the person with $9901 should give another dollar to the rest of the people since the dollar will give them more happiness than it will him. And this must go on until everyone has $100 each. So wouldn't Utilitarianism result in communism? And, at least in America, isn't communism undesirable? Does this mean in America, Utilitarianism undesirable?
