Would a company exist if no profits were to be made? As glorious as it sounds, I don't believe companies would try to make the world a better place somehow if there were no profits in it for them. It's true that creating jobs and providing products/services to consumers is very benevolent, but I don't think you can count those as high priorities to a corporate executive (they especially are not valued over profit!). And in defense of international sweatshops, these corporations are not taking advantage of other people for their own corporate gain. It may seem that way to well-off Americans because we all require a certain amount of money to live a certain quality of life, but these companies that are outsourcing are providing much safer, more reliable, and higher paying jobs to these people than they would be able to receive otherwise. If companies were to pay third-world employees as much as they pay people living in America, the entire market in the foreign country could be disrupted, and the gap between the rich and the poor would become a severe problem. Also, while many people would love to hear a company advertise about how good their working conditions are and how nice they are to employees, if their product is ultimately too much more expensive than competitors', people will buy the cheaper product.
