Around here the better funded shelters have dropped their adoption fees to next to nothing and even started doing 2-for-1 deals with cats. I was shocked when one shelter was adopting out fully vetted cats and kittens for only $10. The next week they did two for $10. The animals are taking such a hit from the bad economy. (I was just reading about some German Shepherd rescue in TX that was closing and leaving 300 animals destined for kill facilities unless some other rescuers could take them.)
