I agree -- if you are going to have the tumors removed, do it now. If you wait, chances are it will have spread and then it will just be a matter of time for the cancer to overtake Missy.
Sage got her first tumor when she was two years old. I did lose her when she was just seven, but I know I would have lost her much sooner had I not continued to have them removed when I found them. I planned to have the last one I found removed until they suddenly appeared everywhere on her abdomen and she was in a lot of pain. I don't know if I missed a tumor or if that time the cancer was internal where I couldn't feel it. She went from acting normally to very, very sick. Especially Boxers, they just don't like to complain.
At any rate, especially knowing one is cancerous, it should be removed ASAP. There is no guarantee that this tumor will be the only cancerous one, or if Missy will get more. The guarantee is that doing nothing with a cancerous tumor will shorten Missy life.
Just because Chad grew-up that way doesn't mean he can't expand his thinking and admit that Missy is a family member and not just expendable. My hubby didn't grow-up with animals, so it has taken a bit for him to adjust, but he has gotten there. Of course I am probably pushier and more demanding than you are. :-)
Hugs to you and your girl. I know these money issues can be tough, but our furkids are worth it and they deserve our best.
