Have you tried Reaction balls they look like large Rubber JACKS and when thrown can take very tricky bounces. Can be purchased from most Softball Supply houses. Also attach a 5 lb (2.5 for some) using a rope to a piece of PVC pipe and do forward and reverse wrist rolls. I have had my players for years hit deflated soccer and/or basketballs to improve strength also,
