"I'm late to this convo but this is one of my pet peaves. I ended up starting my own team because I got so tired of the insincerity and bait and switch. There are A LOT of dad's out there posing as coaches. These coaches obviously know what they should be doing as they can "talk" a good line, but my experience has been they either don't have the chops/knowledge or the experience and usually it is both. To me, all this talk about the degrading of the quality of play throughout the softball community is not because the girls have changed over time, it is because the quality of the coaching has gotten progressively worse as the little league mentality of team management and coaching has now made it's way into the Travel ball ranks. Here is my advice, believe nothing that you hear ad everything that you see! Check the team out when they do not know you are watching them...and you'll see everything you need to see." I think that is sound advice.
