28 Apr 2008 - OCCASION WAS TOO MUCH FOR THE PLAYERS!
Almondsbury Town missed out on claiming the Hellenic Premier Division title and promotion to the BGB Southern League after a 1-0 defeat at Abingdon Town.
Paul Weeks' side had topped the table nearly all season and all they needed from their final game of the season was a point. But they were pipped at the post by North Leigh, whose 8-0 midweek victory meant they finished level on points but with a better goal difference of two.
But The Bristol Evening Post reports, Almondsbury chairman Bob Jenkins is adamant that, if North Leigh are given promotion to the BGB Southern League they will appeal to the Football Association against the decision.
Jenkins is reported as saying. "We completed our ground improvements by the deadline date set by the FA for ground inspection of March 31 and North Leigh have still not completed their work to remedy what has to be done. If North Leigh are given the nod rather than us it makes a mockery of the system and we have spent £10,000 to bring the ground at Oakland Park up to the required standard for admission to the Southern League."
