Standing in front of the lectern is the new Spotlight champion; Heinrich von Richtoven. Standing behind him, is a HWA representative, who; after a few moments, steps up beside him.
Clearing his throat, he starts.
(HWA Official): Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure you can appreciate that time is short, and most of you have what you came here for. Heinrich will now take some questions from those on the floor.
Stepping back, Heinrich finds the room to retake his place at the head of the lectern, as the first reporter stands up.
(Haley Bryan): Heinrich, Haley Bryan; Wrestling News 24. How’s your preparations coming to face Merlyn at ‘Declarations’?
(Heinrich): They’re coming along as well as could be expected Haley. I was hurting after my match at ‘The Other Side’, so I kept things to a lower tempo for the first few days, let my body heal itself. Last thing I want is to injure myself in the run-up to my first title defence after all, or weaken something enough for it to tear during my match even!
(Haley Bryan): You’re back to normal now though I presume?
(Heinrich): Of course. Trust me, I’ve not got any injuries hidden away in case I lose my title; unlike David Haye…
A smattering of chuckles come from the assembled crowd at this, as a second reporter stands up.
(Mark Smith): Mark Smith; Pro-Wrestling Monthly. Do you have a game plan for your match against Merlyn?
(Heinrich): Jah. Not that I’ll be sharing it with you in it’s entirety of course, but I’ll be doing my best to avoid contact with his teeth with anything other than the heel of my boot.
(Mark Smith): Do you anticipate having members of the NWO interfere during this match?
(Heinrich): Well I’d be lying if I said no…
He rolls his shoulders back, loosening them up.
(Heinrich): But I intend on finishing this match quickly and efficiently. Frankly, if they want to interfere, they’d be best to come down to the ring at the start of the match and sit at ringside, because in the time it takes me to hit a “Herzensbrecher” and cover for the pin, they’ll barely be out of their seats, never mind the locker room.
A third reporter rises up as Mark Smith takes his seat.
(Dominic Purcell): Dominic Purcell; South Dakota Daily. What do you make of the current Spotlight scene Heinrich? Now that, arguably, it’s two biggest draws have left the division, where does that leave you and the others?
(Heinrich): Well Dominic, and sorry if I sound like I’m reading from the script here, but while it’s a genuine loss to the division to lose both Logan and Talon, it’s also an incredible opportunity. Logan’s deserved to step up to the All-Star for many, many months, and Talon couldn’t make his mind up whether he was heir to the throne, or wasting his time when it came to the Spotlight division.
He prods his chest as he continues.
(Heinrich): As for myself and the remaining ones, well, currently we’ve got Merlyn being thrust to the fore. We’ll see if he actually sticks around this time though… I’ve extended an offer of a match to Fallen of course, so I’m hoping he’ll accept. Angelus Payne’s reappeared, so no doubt he’ll cross my path at some point. Maybe the Archangels or DnA will dare to think that they can actually compete in singles competition without the earth exploding…
He pauses, dryness creeping into his tone.
(Heinrich): And I suppose there’s always Bryan Deas as well…
Again, a few chuckles ripple around the room.
(Dominic Purcell): You’ve already mentioned that you want to outdo the previous champions, Logan Neilson in particular, have you spoken to Jack Bookman about getting that ambitious plan underway?
(Heinrich): I’ve got a meeting with him later on today actually, and I’m hoping it’ll be very productive. For now, I’m just keen on finding my feet, and getting my first defence done and dusted.
He looks down at his watch, and then to the HWA official, before returning his attention to the reporters.
(Heinrich): Anyway, that’s all I’ve got time for. Thank you all, and enjoy the show later tonight!
The scene fades to black.
