10:20a.m., and the hospital room filled with the cries of a newborn baby. Nurses attended to both Wisdom and her baby, who moments later was wrapped and nestled in her arms. Wisdom’s eyes filled with tears as she looked down at the little pink skull cap, then up to the doctor who was smiling and nodding…
(Doctor): It’s a girl…
Somehow, she couldn’t contain herself. Her concrete damn had ruptured and a river of emotions spilled over into a flow of tears as she nestled her head down towards her daughter. Wisdom lifted her head, and looked around the room for Butch, hoping that he had arrived during the process of which she was oblivious to everyone in the room. She makes eye contact with a nurse who just shakes her head “No” and she suddenly realizes she can’t determine if those are tears of joy, or tears of sorrow in her face. Her every waking moment the last nine months had been Butch by her side in this moment. They had spoken of it countless times in fantastic detail, and she knew nothing in the world could keep him from it. The old Wisdom would be scorching mad right now, her vixen fury burning for answers, and wanting to slap him one hundred different ways for ruining their perfect dream, but Butch Parker…the man whom she loved, had been through so much over the years with…he had quelled her, he had tamed the beast inside her with his love and she knew that his absence would come with good reason. Be that as it may, the disappointment was difficult to overlook, so she turned her attentions to their daughter.
(Wisdom): Welcome to the world my love. My precious…precious little girl. Whatever are we going to call you hmmm?
The day had passed, and Wisdom’s frustrations had grown each hour, on the hour that she still had not heard from her husband. Had it not been for lack of media coverage she would have assumed the absolute worst, but she knew his plane had arrived the day before, she knew that he had checked into his hotel, and she knew he had left for the arena earlier that morning as he called her before he left. If something had happened, an icon such as he would be all over the news, but why couldn’t she reach anyone at the arena? Why wasn’t he answering his cell phone? Why hadn’t he replied to her e-mails? It was nearly 5:00p.m. now, and the Blood, Sweat & Tears preshow was just going off, following a rundown of the nights card. She had ordered it online, and now lay in bed with her laptop, holding her daughter whose eyes were closed and sleeping, the pyro went off and the crowd was roaring. Minutes later as Mia and Jason opened the show….
(Mia): That only leaves us with the World Heavyweight Championship. This is monumental, this is beyond monumental Jason. This is Hogan and Andre epic….this match between Senester and Butch Parker sets the pace for this industry here on out…this sets the standard and the bar for every wrestler alive to measure up to.
The babies eyes opened at the mention of her father’s name. It was as if she knew, if she could turn her head she’d look herself, but his name…she knew it…his blood, was her blood, she knew she was a Parker, and Wisdom smiled at her in adoration and awe. It was roughly 7:45p.m., and they were calling him to the ring. Wisdom sat up in her bed wondering if he would appear, or if some mystery of his whereabouts would continue to haunt her into the night and cause her to rise into action, but there he was his chiseled physique that didn’t need light to shadow his every contour, he was focused, poised and ready, but she was looking for something else, a secret…something only the two of them knew, something even the most vigilant a fan or observer would never see. He mind flashes back a good seven months. She and Butch are on the floor, in front of a roaring fire in their home, nestled into one another sitting face to face, legs wrapped together in what would be one of her favorite sexual positions minus the clothes they were wearing. The light from the flames picked up on the tears in her eyes.
(Wisdom): This is my fault…how could I have been so stupid.
(Butch): This isn’t your fault. Senester knew what he was doing, he had hatched a million different plans the moment he saw me in the courthouse lobby. He knew then that he would have me back, and it wasn’t a hard decision for me to make under the circumstances.
(Wisdom): I could have returned, I didn’t have to be in the ring, I could swept trash after the show, or do commentary or something.
Butch cuts Wisdom a look, slightly raising his eyebrows.
(Wisdom): I know…rather unlikely when dealing with the devil. I just….we were happy, we just found peace, and we’re 3 months pregnant now for Christ sakes. You’ve been through this before…I don’t want you in the ring again getting hurt while I’m not even sitting on the sidelines, I’m sitting up here at home.
Butch takes her hand in his, their wedding bands glisten by the firelight, and he kissed her hand and ring.
(Butch): I love you, and whether I’m in another city, or another country you’re always by my side baby.
Butch holds his hand up and kisses his ring, then they kiss passionately. Her mind returns to the here and now as she watches him in the ring, their secret visible only to her as Butch kisses his ring finger, a gesture ever so slight that he’s done every match since returning to the ring…one only her eyes could see. It brings a smile to her face, and she knows in her heart that everything is fine. She turns their daughter to the television to see her father for the very first time.
After 38 minutes of wincing and cringing at the hellacious encounter Butch has Senester on the mat, he’s locked into the “No Easy Way Out” (STF / Indian Deathlock combo). If not for their baby in her arms Wisdom would be jumping around the room. Senester has nowhere to go, and his hand is up just seconds from pounding the mat in submission when the Havoctron comes on. Her eyes go wide, and over the next few minutes a new rage builds inside her as she watches the revelation behind the day’s events and the moment maliciously stolen from her and Butch. The shock surges through her for several minutes after Blood, Sweat and Tears goes off the air, and she sets the baby in her hospital crib beside her bed. Wisdom grabs her phone and dials Butch…he doesn’t pick and she had hoped that he had at least stopped and grabbed his phone. It didn’t matter now anyway, she can feel his anger across the miles and he hers. She looks out the window into the night….
(Wisdom): I’ll see you when you get here.
The last image of him leaving the arena, heavily injured, bleeding, and with only wrestling gear on was no small indication, she knows his temper was so immeasurable he could do nothing else but head home. It was 8:15p.m., and he would be on the next flight out, no doubt a private charter, bleeding, and without clothes as he was, he would walk the miles if he had to. She was tired still, drained, and as much as she tried to fight the fatigue it was clear it had defeated her. She got back in bed, and pulled her baby’s crib closer. Her only comfort was knowing that when next she opened her eyes, her husband would be there staring back at her and their beautiful baby girl.
