Time flies she thought. Just over two years ago, she and Butch we happier than they had ever been. He was all but retired, and she even a bit longer away from the ring was newly pregnant, eagerly anticipating their first child together. Evina had finally reached the legendary “terrible two’s” and was strutting around the house marveling at every new marvel. Despite interaction with a number of individuals…in many ways the past year in HWA had been a blessing in disguise. The schedule was lighter and it allowed Butch to be home more which was a godsend during that crawl to walk stage. Unlike many fathers in the history of wrestling he hadn’t missed that first crawl, those first steps, and the first words. As she had grown, adjusting to her new physical abilities and mental enhancements so had their routine. As a baby it was easy to put Evina down in her crib, or play pen and have sex any time they wanted, which was quite often. She was by no means disappointed in the quickies they now work in with Evina dotting around here and there. They were hot, jolting, ravishings that left her more than satisfied. Watching television programs was another adjustment. Anything from Dora the Explorer and Sesame Street to CBeebies was always on. Havoc replays were now only watched in the bedroom, when they were alone. Unless Evina was engrossed in what was on the tele, Butch’s soccer matches were not too much affected. While she missed the bonding of breast feeding, there were still the occasional diaper to change. Steadfast as her father, Evina had been determined to be a “big girl” and go to the potty. Her world was filled with amazing travels and food she couldn’t yet appreciate, with toys and fun, and with the love of her parents, cousins and aunt. Little did she know about the world of wrestling. She knew nothing of a man named Michael James that has spent most of her life trying to ruin it via her parents. She didn’t know the hateful words spewed from his mouth, but Wisdom and Butch did, and they had every intention on putting an end to it.
Wisdom makes her way out onto the back deck, it’s a warn 73 degrees along the Santa Barbara coastline, and a mild breeze is blowing. She looks out onto the beach and in the far distance sees Butch training out on the sand. He’d spent a fair portion of the morning swimming against the waves, running sprints and a few other cardio drills. He’s got a bit of a tan, and is glistening sweat in the California sun. She had no doubts about his victory at Road to Ruin, not even a brief moment of pause. Notwithstanding the fact that the match is inside a cage, there were circulating of something that would keep her preoccupied and out of the match, potentially giving Michael James the edge. It was likely just mind games brought on by Senester, something to keep her on edge and Butch off his game with worry. While the unknown and alleged threat was slightly disturbing, she didn’t bother much with it. She had made that much clear just the day before. On the way home Butch had a number of appearances to make and she took up an offer of her own to be a guest on The View. She turned on the tv to watch the new episode.
(Nicole Wallace): Our first guest is a model, a wrestling superstar, and on top of it all she’s a mom…ladies and gentlemen…Mrs. Wisdom Parker.
The audience cheers as Wisdom struts out onto the stage and she’s greeted with a hug by each host, before taking a seat.
(Rosie Perez): I don’t know if you all can tell, but I’m totally start struck right now….no seriously.
Wisdom laughs and lets out a broad smile while the audience continues to cheer. She looks as radiant as ever.
(Wisdom): Oh my god…you’re too kind…thank you.
(Whoopi Goldberg): You’re a busy woman Wisdom, and you’ve been through some, “S-word” I can’t say on tv…tell us how you manage to pull it all together.
(Wisdom): Wow…it hasn’t been easy. Well you know my husband is Butch Parker and…
The women in the crowd are up out of their seats roaring at Butch’s name and Wisdom simply blushes, clapping along with them.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Oh Yeah girl…they know.
(Wisdom): Well like I was saying, it hasn’t been easy. First being a woman in a male dominated sport is an uphill battle from day one. The men aside, every other woman you come across is just as eager to prove themselves as you so it can be quite cutthroat.
(Nicole Wallace): Now you used to have run ins with a variety of different women, ICE, Blush…Callisto who I believe you were teamed with for a while.
Wisdom kinda rolls her eyes at the names, especially ICE and Blush.
(Wisdom): I was a threat…I was a threat since I entered the company. None of them had the skill I had. ICE was reigning queen of HWA and hadn’t only been tested with your “diva” quality competitors so in reality all her hype was highly unwarranted. Blush was just the little southern belle, that didn’t know what she wanted in life, and Callisto was just a crazy you know what.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Now wait a minute…didn’t ICE and your husband date at one time.
(Wisdom): It was never anything like that. She was a manipulative old cow that just wanted to use him to her advantage. Oh she played the damsel in distress role very well…she and Blush both.
(Rosie Perez): You weren’t about to have that girl, where you?
(Wisdom): Well you know…at first I don’t think Butch even had me on his radar. I was new, and like I said…it’s a cutthroat world so naturally someone had started rumors about me trying to sleep my way to the top. That made it tough for me starting out. People see a beautiful blond chick, and they think she’s a ###### and nothing else. It took a lot of work to break that stereotype. Buff Bridges was actually the first person in HWA to really befriend me.
The crowd bursts into cheers at Buff’s name and Wisdom nods and claps with him.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Oh yes child!
(Wisdom): Buff is a legend in this business, but above all, he’s a gentleman and I can never thank him enough for his kindness. Really if it hadn’t been for him, it would have been easy for me to throw in the towel and give it. That and I was determined to put ICE in her place.
(Nicole Wallace): So flash forward ten years plus now, and you’re married, semi-retired and your daughter recently turned two years old. You have more on your plate than ever before and you still look amazing.
Wisdom smiles and mouths “thanks” as the crowd claps.
(Wisdom): As rough and rugged as the wrestling business is, it’s been important to me to maintain my “femininity” I guess you would say…my whole womanhood as far as looks go, and it hasn’t been cheap.
(Rosie Perez): Cheap as in, you’ve had some work done?
(Wisdom): No, I actually haven’t had much of anything done. I did have some work done on my nose a few years back, but that was due to a horribly broken nose after a match, and just last year I had some dental work when I got my front teeth knocked out.
(Whoopi Goldberg): I saw that…the uh…the Japanese guy kicked you in the face or something like that right?
(Nicole Wallace): Michael James…I believe is his name right?
(Wisdom): Ugh! Don’t remind me…but yes that’s him, but as I was saying the ring is a rough place. Sweat is not our hair’s friend ladies and hitting that canvas night in and night out does no wonders to your skin.
(Rosie Perez): I think that’s an important point you make about women in sports in general. There’s this social perception of what is beautiful, what a woman should look like, nice hair, soft skin, great teeth and smile, etc. etc., and it has to be that much more difficult to maintain when you lead such an active lifestyle.
(Wisdom): It is, but it’s also a personal choice. I think we as women have evolved for the most part away from that archaic define. Look at Lupita Nyong'o, she’s a gorgeous woman who like others have broken that “Oh women should have long hair” mentality. Look at you Whoopi….hell I think you pioneered that change yourself with your hairstyle.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Honey I was wearing dreads long before they were popular with women, I don’t even know if they are even now.
(Wisdom): But you see my point…no one can tell us what beautiful is. It’s not the skinny white girl on the magazine cover, it could be the plus size girl next door with a ponytail. We do what makes us feel good. Being in the ring does a lot of damage, it’s like shaving your legs or men who get hair removal…it’s a personal choice.
(Rosie Perez): Well your skin is flawless honey. Whatever you’re doing looks damn good.
(Wisdom): Thank You. I’ve been cut, gashed, burned, battered and bruised a million times. I have my scars, but they are delicate scars. I’m actually kinda like a baby when I get back to the locker room, I go into panic mode about having some permanent mark on my face or someplace readily visible.
(Nicole Wallace): You were saying you had your teeth kicked out…how did that fit into your physical outlook?
(Wisdom): I was mortified honestly. It was what…just about a year ago exactly. I had come to confront Michael James, I had honestly just had enough of his crap, but little did I know Butch’s nephew Sean was there. He jumped him out of the blue, and if you know his history he was nearly paralyzed in the ring years before. I came down and went toe-to-toe with James.
(Rosie Perez): I know that’s right.
(Wisdom): I got my shots in, but at some point he hit me so hard I didn’t realize my teeth were out at first. My whole face went numb and when I rolled over my mouth was so full of blood I reached up and that’s when I realized they were gone.
Whoopi cringes and we see women in audience shake their heads, and cover their mouths as some of the stills courtesy of HWA show on the screen.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Ohhhh child!
(Wisdom): I know…but it comes with the territory.
(Nicole Wallace): So tell us about your daughter Evina.
Wisdom’s face lights up at the thought of her little girl.
(Wisdom): She’s amazing. She’s tough as nails so she either has her father’s hearty physical genes or she inherited my stubborn determination.
(Nicole Wallace): Or both right?
(Wisdom): Or both, yes. It’s been a trying few months for us. It’s hard not to bring the business home with us, and we don’t want to influence her development with any negative vibes, and honestly its harder sometimes than others.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Especially with some damn lunatic running off at the mouth like I hear this Michael James guy has.
(Nicole Wallace): And the things he’s said, which aren’t worth repeating…the most heinous, sickening and vile comments you’d ever want to hear. How do you and your husband shield your daughter from all this.
(Wisdom): It was easy when she was a bit smaller, we could watch the shows and talk about it, but now that she’s older and starting to put her own little words together and conceptualize things in the world we have to draw a line and leave it out of her presence.
(Rosie Perez): A mother will do anything to protect her child I know. So tell us how this ends.
Wisdom goes silent for a moment, she can feel anger filling her up thinking about Michael James and a blank stare on her face clearly shows it.
(Wisdom): It ends with Michael James being beaten to pulp next week at Road to Ruin. Butch is going to do to him what he has never done to anyone. This goes beyond just trying to beat him, he’s going to destroy him and not to diminish the World Title, but it’s just a bonus prize…compared to the primary objective.
(Whoopi Goldberg): Now we heard something that guy was cooking up to keep you out of the match, and for it not to be plastered all over the darn internet by now, he must be pretty tight lipped about it.
(Wisdom): I’m not worried about it. At this point I’ve heard all Michael James has to say. He doesn’t have any more insults left to spew at me. I will be ringside and there is nothing he can do that’s going to get under my skin Whoopi.
(Nicole Wallace): Well thank you so much for joining us Wisdom, it’s been a pleasure, and good luck to your husband next week.
(Wisdom): Thank you so much for having me.
(Rosie Perez): When we come back, we’ll get into the Aaron Hernandez trial now entering its 2nd month and whether or not we can expect to hear from his fiancée Shayanna Jenkins…we’ll be right back.
Wisdom stops the recording and saves it. As she turns around she sees Butch coming up the stairs from the beach back to the house. A smile comes across her face and she goes to the sliding glass doors waiting to give him a hug and kiss, sweaty and all as the scene fades to black.
