Media Outlet Response
The news has spread like wildfire, and following the announcement from CBS marking HWA’s imminent mainstream return …news outlets from around the world have joined the rampant conversation: A shell of its former self since an epic downfall, the now virtually defunct company appears to be setting the stage for a global return. There are no official announcements from HWA itself at this time, but we can confirm that CBS is in the process of adjusting its programming schedule for first quarter 2023 following their announcement... Look out WWE, AEW and NJPW…the grandaddy of them all is poised to make a major comeback. The Hardcore Wrestling Alliance has just inked an agreement with CBS Broadcasting Inc. The question remains if the company can regain its status as the premier wrestling promotion in the world… A bombshell of an announcement out the Unites States with CBS, partnering with the Hardcore Wrestling Alliance in what could be the largest comeback of any company in history, let alone in wrestling… CBS obviously hasn’t learned the lesson FOX is learning right now with WWE, and hell that’s just one show they’ve got. Do they really think they can resurrect a that dead dinosaur in HWA? Look, I like wrestling as much as the next guy, but come one…let the dead rest man. Los Angeles Times – Opinion Piece (Paul Pringle - Los Angeles Times Reporter): I heavily covered the fall of HWA in 2015. It was a downward spiral long in the making. Following the arrest of its former owner Senester, the company lost all sponsorships and its broadcasting contracts, it was plagued by a slew of lawsuits, loss of talent, and the final nail was hammered into its coffin. Flash forward nearly 7 years and we are at the dawn of its resurrection following CBS major announcement of acquiring the broadcasting right to HWA programming. What do we know about HWA today? We know that shortly after Butch and Wisdom Parker became Co-Owners of the company things unexpectedly fell apart for them. We know that the company lost its global platform as networks around the world refused to touch them. We know there was a mass exodus of talent. We know that the company lost millions in returned ticket sales forced to cancel its 2016 arena schedule. We know that it lost fans around the world, and that it was all but reduced to a lowly independent federation. The company regrouped shortly after with a new vision. Focusing on the purity of the sport and in ring competition, stripped of all the glitch and the glamour it sought new talent for its new direction. It became a training ground and starting point for up-and-coming talent. Once it got its feet under itself again a Youtube channel was created to host a 30-minute weekly show, and they ultimately began to tour again…albeit in the smallest arenas around the country slowly building a loyal underground fanbase. HWA has been a shell of its former self, but what it has managed to do is rebuild its reputation, a small but solid roster of talent, and move it self as far away from its past woes as possible. Perhaps now is the right time for a return. Perhaps it shouldn’t be judged for its past, but for its recent accomplishments and its future potential. There are many, many questions to be answered that we hope to get answers to in the coming weeks and this news continues to break, and I will be watching.
