“Just hang in there, Matt,” the medic tells him, “we’ve got you well taken care of, we’re almost there.”
Through grit teeth, Matt responds sarcastically, trying to make light of the situation, "Yeah, thanks. Feeling so much better already, so I am, fella.
The Medic chuckles slightly before speaking up in a more serious tone. "You had us worried for a while there. That was one helluva beating you took.”
Matt groans in response as another sharp jolt shoots through his head.
The medic recognises Matt’s discomfort and attempts to reassure him in a sympathetic manner. “It's going to hurt like this until the next few hours pass. Don't hesitate to ask for pain meds if you need ‘em though."
At those words, Matt squeezes shut his eyes tightly and mutters under his breath, "Can't wait. Just want sleep. That and to rip that prick Maniac’s head off.”
With that final statement, the medic nods before continuing his task of patching up Matt's injuries. The sound of metal staples piercing flesh reverberates off the walls. Finally, almost an hour later, the wounds have been expertly dressed and closed up, leaving Matt feeling drained but relieved to have escaped further complications after what happened after his match. With some prescriptions of painkillers in hand, he jumps off the treatment table, thanking the medic for his patience and hard work. As he makes his way back to the locker room area, his face like thunder. He sees several HWA staff members as he makes his way back.
“Hey fellas, have you seen Maniac?”
“Sorry, Matt, he left with Mandy and Greg right after your match.”
“Shit!” Matt shouts, startling the staff which he instantly recognises apologises for. “Sorry lads, thanks for your time.”
Matt continues to make his way back to the locker room when he’s approached by the same reporter that spoke to him before the match with Maniac.
“Matt,” the reporter says, catching Matt’s attention, “How are you feeling after what happened earlier?
Matt tries to put up a brave front, but his exhaustion is evident as he rubs his temples.
“Not bad considering,” Matt answers. “My head hurts like a sonofabitch, but other than that, I'm hanging in there.“
“What about Maniac? You looked like you were on the verge of victory tonight but it just didn’t happen.”
“Look,” Matt starts, “I can deal with defeat. Am I disappointed that I lost? Course I am, fella! But these things happen and Maniac is a multi-time World Champion, there’s no shame in losing to him. But what I can’t take is cowardly attacking me after the match, deliberately trying to injure me.”
Matt turns and looks directly at the camera.
“Well, Maniac, ya whatcha wanted fella! My full, undivided attention!”
He points to the stapled-together wound on his head.
“Is this what you wanted, lad? To give me a Human Horror Reel induction to HWA Hall of Pain? Some sort of twisted f**kin’ right of passage? To get me all fired up? Well congratu-f**kin’-lations! You certainly did that! Tell you the truth, I don’t know whether it’s the adrenaline talking but I’m choking for another fight right now but then I find out you literally scarpered like a coward as soon as our match was done! You didn’t have the balls to go toe-to-toe with Sensei Matthew because you knew he’d kick your arse all the way back to whatever nut house you were locked in for all those years, you didn’t wanna stay and face Butch because he knew he’d also tear you a new one!”
Matt starts pacing back and forth, feeling his temper rising.
“Well, it doesn’t matter, Maniac mate, because this scar right here, it’s gonna heal. This concussion I have that’s making me want to vomit right now and making this room spin like a top? It’s gonna pass. I probably won’t be medically cleared for the next Havoc but I’ll be there. I want you in a rematch, any place, any time. I’ll go directly to Butch, to Wisdom to get my rematch and when I get it, the outcome will be different. Because you can’t lie that I took you to your limit tonight, Maniac and it scared the shit out of you! And next time, I’m gonna go one better. Enjoy the spoils for now, Maniac, they’ll be short-lived!”
Matt looks at the camera one last time before slapping the interviewer on the shoulder and walking off as the scene fades to black.
