First however, was a little something personal. She thought heavily still on Butch’s anxiety attack at Havoc. Of the many things on his mind, there was one she knew that had been troubling him for over a month now…Cody Rhodes. She regretted what happened between her and Brandi at the reunion, and she had tried to make amends only to fail. They didn’t know what the driving force was behind her vile accusations, twisted truths, and cruel words, but she knew that thus far they had only heard from Brandi. Cody had yet to say one word about the situation. Was his lack of response to Butch’s calls and text messages their answer? Did his silence validate a shared belief with Brandi? If he didn’t agree with her, why wouldn’t he say something? He was busy, sure, but he certainly had a few moments sitting in the airport waiting for a plane, or riding in the car to send something. She had left Cody to Butch, but right now she knew Butch could use a friend. Hans and Matthew were his close pals, but he needed someone to connect to on a different level, and that was Cody. She grabbed her phone and dialed a number. There was no response, and she almost hung up but decided to leave a message.
(Wisdom): Cody it’s Wisdom. We haven’t spoken yet and I'd love to, but I’m sure you’ve heard enough from Brandi to have an idea that we aren’t on the best of terms right now. I don’t know what she’s told you, but I need to tell you that I’m sorry. What happened at the Reunion was beyond regrettable. I don’t know why she said the things she did, I don’t know if you somehow feel the same of differently. What I do know is that you and Butch have been friends for years and I would hate to see that ruined because of what happened between Brandi and I. You know him Cody, he feels the weight of the world on his shoulders, and he’s stubborn as all hell. He had a damn anxiety attack at Havoc, can you believe that? His body is telling him to stop, or at least slow down. This situation is weighing on him more than anything, and you’re the only person he’ll talk to. Please, please call him, text him, send him an email, a tweet, hell a smoke signal will do…just please reach out to him so at least you two can move past whatever this is. As far as Brandi and I go… I swear on my kids lives I tried to make it right with her Cody, I did. She didn’t want to hear what I had to say, and I certainly didn’t want to hear what was coming out her mouth. That just leaves you, please, help me fix this. We love you!
Wisdom hangs up the phone and leans back in her chair. This situation was insane. Her fuse is short, but for her to know its affect on her slow burning husband bothered her immensely. As they had already been doing, there was nothing left but for them to wait and hope that Cody would call. As she went through her emails a smile came across her face. She began frantically typing back, pressed send and then called their marketing director.
(Wisdom): You saw the email?........right, isn’t that great?........No, we don’t need to wait, I’d like an ad to go out as soon as possible, they're already shipping so we can just go forward……..No, I don’t care about the packaging really, just use the prototypes they sent over….great, thanks……..and nice work on this…….of course, anytime, bye!
She hangs up the phone and turns on the monitor in her office. It comes to life with the HWA logo on it, before going to a menu with the most recent superstar promos. Admittedly, she was a few days behind having not had too much time to devote to this since Havoc. She was deeply engrossed in this new partnership about to be announced, finalizing the arena contract for the next Havoc, and spending quality time with the kids. Remote in hand she navigates over, going through the promos and sees comments from Maniac and his challenge to Matt, as well as his reply. She rolls her eyes, and opens the recording software at her desk. Hers and Butch’s offices had both been outfitted with state of the art equipment they could deploy from their desk at a moments notice to send out whatever communications they needed. Streaming and recording directly to the website she addresses Maniac and Matt.
(Wisdom): Butch will certainly address this from a talent perspective, but from me and a business perspective… Maniac, I think it goes without saying that the match you propose simply isn’t going to happen. Regardless of where we ultimately hold our first PPV, I don’t think you and some others fully understand what we’re doing here. How many times do we need to say this isn’t the old HWA? We don’t just put on these kinds of matches because someone has a grudge and wants to use it as an excuse to escalate things further than they need to go. Do you realize why HWA was darn near shut down completely to begin with? Because of stuff like that! There isn’t a single state that is going to license us for that kind of match, and we’re not going to put the reputation we’ve built on the line just for one match either. Matt, I’m surprised you even accepted, but I assume it’s just the adrenaline you had at the moment talking. No one knows more than you what it took to get us where we are now, and you of all people I know aren’t so eager to throw the last 7 years of your efforts away. If you two want to have an Iron Man Match, or a 2-out-of-3 Pinfalls match, maybe even a Falls Count Anywhere match, maybe I can push that through, but an Asylum Match? No!
Wisdom finishes and publishes the recording. Shaking her head. With the contract for Havoc set, there was no time like the present to get the ball rolling with the announcement. They had wanted to stay as close as possible to home and headquarters the first Havoc, but knowing that things would be in order with the new site by the time the second event came around, they made plans to venture outside of California. This Havoc could very well be bigger than the last. It was their first big event outside the state in 7 years. Sure, they did a small show every once in a while taking the short drive to Las Vegas, and that one-time longer drive to Arizona when the bus broke down and it took twice as long to get there…but this was the first arena show. They were truly touring again. Yet, another new element the new blood of HWA would have to become accustomed to. Travel aside, the crowds can differ from city to city, that was a dynamic she was sure they were covering in their training. She presses her equipment to life once again. Sits, upright and fixes her hair as she addresses the HWA audience.
(Wisdom): Ladies and gentlemen, I’m pleased to announce that this past Havoc was the number one rated show on all of primetime television. You, the fans…your phenomenal viewership made our return to broadcast television more meaningful than you can imagine. But, we’re not going to rest on our laurels. I’m just as pleased to announce that our next Havoc is the official launch of our 2023 touring schedule as we leave the state of California for the first time in almost 8 years. Coming to you live, Monday, May 22nd from the United Center in Chicago Illinois. We’re ready for a slice of that deep dish pizza, and we know you’re ready for a slice of HWA action…so Chicago, here we come!
Wisdom ends the presentation, and publishes it out. She gets back to checking out the recent promos and sees one up from Fallen to Butch. Her eyes roll again at his flippant response. Once more her thoughts return to their decision to invite former superstars to return. Could they really make the leap from the chaos of yesterday to the forward thinking balance of pure wrestling and entertainment today, or were they stuck in their ways and just one action away from having their contracts rescinded? She shakes her head as a knock comes at the door.
(Wisdom): Come in!
A staffer comes in with a box and sets it on her desk in excitement.
(Staffer): They’re here, I thought you’d want to take a look.
Wisdom stands unfolding the flaps on the already opened box and pulls out a t-shirt that reads “Go, Daddy Go!”
(Wisdom): This is great, get in touch with Stu-E and his daughter, get them whatever colors they want and ask him to have her wear it next Havoc.
(Staffer): You got it!
Just then her cell phone rings and she doesn’t bother checking the caller I.D., hoping that it was Cody returning her call.
(Voice): Wisdom?
(Wisdom): Oh, hey Terry!
(Terry): I’m sorry to call you directly for this, but neither Butch, Matthew or Hans are here.
(Wisdom): Oh, crap, what’s going on?
(Terry): It’s alright now, but you guys should know what just went down in here.
(Wisdom): What did the boys do this time?
(Terry): It wasn’t the boys, it was the girls!
(Wisdom): What?
Terry fills Wisdom in on the incident in the training facility with Alexis, Michelle and Sarah. When she hangs up with him, she immediately phones Butch and gets his voicemail. She looks at the clock and figures he was either with the guys at one of their working lunches having a pint and some grub as the hash out some plans, or they were training…which they shouldn’t be because he’s still supposed to be taking it easy at least 2 more days.
(Wisdom): Babe, it’s me…call Terry when you get this. The girls just got into a bit of a rouse and I think you and the guys might need to intervene… I’m not touching this. Oh and babe…don’t forget you promised to take Evina to that Judy Blume movie a while back, it came out on Friday. You know she loves her Daddy Days and she’ll never leave you alone until you go. Love you!
Wisdom ends the call and shakes her head returning to a few other tasks as the scene fades out.
