Anton: Slow down there kid
Ash: (Groggily) Where am I,
Anton: We are at Davis's place.
Ash: Why does it hurt so much
Anton: Kid, you got your ass whooped by some unnamed rookie. He put a number on you. What the hell were you thinking. Or where you thinking?
Ash: I thought maybe we would lock up, (Takes a deep swallow that seems to hurt as he grimaces in pain) I thought we would lock up, joust a bit, maybe throw each other against the ropes, a few take downs and maybe take it from there where I could *COUGHS* Maybe sneak out a win with some tight holding
Anton: What the hell you talking about kid. Wehre di you read that nonsense, "How to be a spot moneky for dummies" You've been watching to many youtube videos son. You thought you were gonna walk in and perform some ballet. Some Broadway play for the fans and eeek out a win. Oh boy, son, if that is what you think we do, go back to momma and go toss that football around.
Ash: I don't understand.
Anton: long are the days when we talked about how the match should go for entertainment while we tried and beat the piss out of one another. for the last fifteen, twenty odd years we go in that ring and from bell to bell try and beat the piss out of each other. This isn't the 80's or 90's anymore son.
(Ash lays looking up, eyes filling with emotion)
Ash: I have to get this, I have to be able to do this. I'm an athlete.
Anton: Son, you played football in college and over seas. This isn't that. You may have the athletic ability but mental fortitude, skill and the willingness to put yourself out there for possible beatings, blood shed and heartbreak takes an entirely different toll on the body, mind and soul. We aren't the dancing monkeys we used to be way back when. It's in part due to the shorter careers we have these days. Older guys who started in the 80's had a long shelf life because most of th9is shit was performance. These days, I starting from the late 90's, shit got real, real fast.
Ash: I need to learn this
Anton: Sorry kid, I promised your dad I would never train any of his kids. He always knew one of you would want this, but I promised him. I can consult you, advise you, hell, if you liver to see another match, maybe even manage you, as far as training you, I can't do. And Don't ask Davis, he's way more bitter than I am these days. Shit, speaking of Davis where did that son of a bitch go that he's taking so long.
Ash: I have to train
Anton: Son, you can barely sit up straight. here, let me help you
(Anton goes over and helps Ash sit up as Ash lets out a groan)
Ash: I need help Anton
Anton: I can see that, shit the entire world who tuned in could see that. but let me ask you. What you think is gonna happen. You gonna throw on some music from Rocky 4, lace up, tape up your hands learn a few bumps and then go into the ring and start tearing ass like some story book underdog. This shit takes years son. YEARS! It will Probably take you six months just to learn how to fall without getting a concussion let alone how to tie up, do a ####ing wrist lock, and let me not even mention your form and ability to know the ins and out of a ring. It's not worth it kid.
Ash: I can do this Anton. I never played football in my life until I stepped on a college field and became an All American in all four of my years with Maine university.
Anton: Kid, I ain't saying you can't learn, I just don't think you can learn in the time slot you already pegged for yourself. He;;! even if you did get the basic down in the next few months, it won't be anywhere near what it will take to rise to the ranks of HWA. It takes years kid.
Ash: I ain't got years. Where is the Ice Box.
Anton: Kid, He ain't gonna help you. He also promised your dad and mom.
Ash: I don't need him to help me, I need him to see me. Hear me and understand why i am doing this. Then, I need him to test me.
Anton: You are in for some heartbreak kid. Talon is long removed from the sport.
Ash: I know he was at the show, I know he's watching. That means he has interest. Rather he thinks he need to protect me, keep an eye on me or be some savior is his own self-righteousness speaking. I don't need any of that. What I do need is a place to train and if you won't train me, Davis or Talon won't. I will find someone who will.
Anton: Son, You have the last name Phoenix, you won't find too many who won't want to train you, but that can be risky itself. A guy with your name, your lineage will draw attention from a lot of folks, some who have the wrong intentions in capitalizing off your name while watching you crash and burn.
Ash: THEN FUXXING HELP ME! (Grimaces in pain as he lets out a yell) Help me Anton.
Voice: No one is gonna help you kill yourself kid
(Slowly turns his stiff neck around to see Davis standing there)
Ash: Good to see you Davis, I am very lucky to have found Anton. It's great that you guys ares till friends
Davis: Sorry kid, it took a long time to accept your dads death. We can't watch another Phoenix burn to the ground. Second, Anton is like my brother, hell he is my brother. We were all brothers, your dad, talon, Merlyn
(Davis Hands Ash a drink and some pain killers)
Davis: Take those, Kid, we'll be here for anything you need. But we can't be part of your journey in this way. I say go speak to Talon
Ash: That's what I want to do but Anton says it's pointless
(Davis throws Anton a look)
Davis: He's trying to protect you, honestly, we never truly retire kid, we just get old enough where our body can't take anymore. For me, I think I still have it in me to go for one hooruah, but I won't do it without that idiot right there, and since Anton isn't willing to lace them up again. I'll stay retired.
(Ash slowly gets up in pain)
Ash: How long will it take for the pain killers to set in?
Davis: About 20 minutes, where are you going . Sit your ass back down.
Ash: I can't sit here, though this place is so much nicer then the last place I was in
Anton: #### off kid. Next time you need a sofa, sleep on the street, jerk
(Ash smirks)
Ash: I have to get some air. I have to clear my head
Anton: Don't go snooping around my place. The Eddie Phoenix fan boys have come out the wood work since your emergence. It's why we are here. thought you could use some privacy.
Ash: Thanks, can I come back of I need to Davis.
Davis: Of course, we ain't going nowhere.
Ash: Thanks,
Anton: Take it easy kid, the pain killers can make your wobbly and disoriented in the first hour.
Ash: Thanks...
(Ash grabs his sweaters and hat and slowly puts it on while holding his side in pain)
Ash: I'll be back later, I think.......
